SHENANDOAH, Texas - The Shenandoah City Council unanimously passed a resolution of support for the $350 million Montgomery County Road Bond Election to be held on May 9, 2015. The road bonds will require no tax increase.

If passed, the road bonds will address a crucial countywide need for expanded and renovated roadways across four precincts. With the area’s unprecedented growth driven in part by the relocation of major companies, the existing infrastructure has not been able to keep up with the increased traffic demands. A total of 77 priority road projects have been identified and several of them are in the city limits of Shenandoah. These projects will focus on heavy traffic areas east of I-45.

Shenandoah officials have been closely involved with transportation and mobility issues over the last two years and have provided critical input to the planning process. This involvement provided the initial push to set up multi-agency groups to look at the growing need for roadway improvements. They feel we are already behind the curve on transportation issues and believe it is critical that this bond issue passes.

“Shenandoah shares in the frustration of the increasing traffic and congestion felt across the county,” said City Administrator Greg Smith. “We’ve had an opportunity to sit at the table with people from other cities and agencies and have taken a pro-active approach to the problem. The road bonds will take us further into this process and help alleviate some key areas of concern sooner than later.”
