THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Covenant United Methodist Church, one of the newest churches in The Woodlands, has purchased five acres of land from The Woodlands® Development Company, on the southeast corner of Kuykendahl and Creekside Green. The church intends to build on the property within a three-year timeframe.

“This is a prime location for Covenant,” said Jason Burnham, founding pastor of Covenant. “It is at the southern entrance to The Woodlands – with maximum visibility in an area that is experiencing tremendous growth. We are thrilled with our new site.” The purchase was funded by church member contributions and a grant from the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Short-term financing was provided by Woodforest National Bank.

“We are excited to welcome Covenant United Methodist Church to the Village of Creekside Park,” said Alex Sutton, Co-President of The Woodlands Development Company. “Creekside Park offers residents many amenities including places of worship, education, shopping and dining at Creekside Park Village Green, a focal point of the village center, along with nature and recreation.”

When fully developed, the Covenant complex is projected to include a 700-seat sanctuary, children's ministry space, youth and adult meeting space, a community hall, administration offices and on-site parking. The facility is being designed to serve 1200-1500 worshippers each weekend. An initial site master plan was completed by Studio Red Architects of Houston.

The church currently worships at 10 a.m. at Timber Creek Elementary School (8455 Creekside Green Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77389), which is located next door to the purchase site. The site is conveniently located just south of the Creekside Park Village Center and across Kuykendahl from Tomball ISD’s Creekside Park Junior High, Creekview Elementary School and the Lone Star College-Creekside campus, all of which are under construction.

Earlier this year, Covenant’s membership took another significant step toward permanency - officially chartering as a United Methodist Church. As a chartered church, Covenant has established a self-sufficient financial base and has developed lay leadership to carry forward the ministries of the church.

“Our recent charter and the land purchase are indications that we are fulfilling God’s vision for Covenant – to build a community connected in Christ,” said Burnham. “We look forward to developing a campus that is community centered, a place where all are welcome and invited to worship, grow in their faith and be sent out to serve in missions on a local, regional and global scale.”

“Covenant is uniquely positioned,” he said of the church. “Geographically, we couldn’t be in a better spot. There is so much growth in the southern part of The Woodlands, north Spring, and east Tomball.” In addition to contemporary worship services on Sundays, Covenant offers a vibrant, growing children’s and youth program, as well as adult small groups, mission and outreach opportunities.
