OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas - A twenty-member team from Oak Ridge Baptist Student Ministries, of Spring, TX, led by Nick Jones, will be returning to Belize with Thirst Missions from July 21-28. Thirst Missions, based in Forest Lake, MN, is the world’s leader in providing short-term mission trips to Belize, Central America. They take care of all the logistics and planning so the group can focus on ministry and relationships.

Oak Ridge Baptist Student Ministries travels with Thirst Missions to Belize, Central America.

The team will be serving in the Maskall Baptist Church, in Maskall Village. Maskall Village is in the Belize District of southern Belize. Many of the people speak Creole, although English, the primary language of Belize, is taught in the schools. Most of the income of the community comes from growing sugarcane and farming. It is a poor area with many physical and spiritual needs. The people are hard working, loving and caring, and excited to have a mission team come and work with them again this summer.

The Maskall Baptist Church, where the Oak Ridge Baptist Team will be ministering, worships twenty people on a typical Sunday evening service. The church has weekly women’s Bible Studies, prayer meetings, and an evening church services on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. The church will be focused on music ministry, marriage restoration, and preaching the gospel as points of emphasis this year.

Once in Belize, the Oak Ridge Baptist Team will be working with various ministries. They will make home visits to the local community members, sharing about life in the USA, inviting them to the week’s activities, and building relationships. Sharing of their personal stories, of their faith, and of their own lives can be such an encouragement to the people of Belize. The Team will also help with various service projects around the church and community from simple clean up of the land to small repairs.

Throughout their time there, the Oak Ridge Baptist Team will also lead a Vacation Bible School for kids ages 5-12, reaching 75-125 kids. They will help lead worship services at the Maskall Baptist Church, and will take part in a Sports Ministry in the afternoons. This ministry involves outreach to the youth and children through playing soccer, basketball, wiffleball, volleyball, and kickball. In the evenings, the Team will lead a youth outreach for youth ages 15-25. Games, food, teaching, and discussion are typical components of youth ministry.

As the trip nears the end, the Oak Ridge Baptist Team will be able to journey to Altunha, taking in the Mayan Ruins there, and continue on to beautiful Caye Caulker via water taxi. There they will enjoy some time snorkeling and exploring. The goal of Thirst Missions is to partner with teams and provide opportunities for groups to minister, to keep everyone safe, to guide the trip in cultural areas, and to take care of all the behind-the-scenes details. Thirst Missions is looking forward to leading the Oak Ridge Baptist Student Ministries Team once again on this life-changing trip to paradise!
