The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra season reunites with The Woodlands Chorale

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra announced it has reunited with The Woodlands Chorale – after a period of five years since their last joint venture – to present the holiday classic “Messiah,” composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. The concert, directed by David Faber and WSO artistic director Darryl Bayer, will take place on Sunday, December 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, located at 3801 S. Panther Creek Drive in The Woodlands.

Led by special guest conductor Robert Hunt, the concert will feature the full 35 piece Baroque symphony for an authentic performance in the style of Handel’s intentions. The concert is free to attend; “Our Christmas present to all,” said Bayer. “Handel created such a beautiful masterpiece that everyone knows the moment they hear the choir sing their chorus of ‘Hallelujah’ to the sky. We want to uplift The Woodlands, artistically, musically, and seasonally, and this concert is the best way to accomplish that.”

Bayer helped form the original Woodlands Symphony in 1993 while working at The John Cooper School. He held the principal trumpet chair for the entire first fifteen years of the orchestra until 2008. Following the financial downturn or what Mr. Bayer calls, “a long five-year-intermission,” Bayer began to rebuild the orchestra backed by local musicians and former patrons. The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra is comprised of quality musicians from the Woodlands region including Magnolia, Tomball, Conroe, Spring and Oak Ridge. It is designed to be an orchestra that does more than merely provide musical entertainment to local residents; it also encapsulates the entire unique essence of The Woodlands area.
