THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands Children’s Museum will be transformed with traditional Chinese colors and decorations in celebration of the Year of the Monkey.

Lion dancers, art projects and games planned for Jan. 30

The museum, located at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280 in The Woodlands, will host its grand Chinese New Year celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. The event is included in the price of admission, which is $5 per person 2 years and older.

Two Lion Dance groups will perform, and there will be various art projects and cultural activities scheduled throughout the day. The Woodlands High School Chinese Club will also be on hand to demonstrate the ancient art of Chinese writing.

“We hope the community will join us as we ring in the Chinese New Year,” Angela Colton, executive director of the museum, said. “This is a wonderful chance to share the rich traditions of Asia with your children – and explore the art and culture of the various countries that celebrate the Lunar New Year.”

The celebration is being sponsored by Kid to Kid, a children’s shop located at 6777 Woodlands Parkway that buys and sells gently-used clothing and toys, baby equipment and maternity wear with great prices on top brands.

The business’ owner Donna Gylling explained that her two daughters, now 19 and 15 years old, were born in China and adopted.

“Through the years, we have tried to teach them about their birth culture, and we celebrate Chinese holidays in addition to our American ones,” she said. “The Lunar New Year is the biggest holiday in Asia, and Kid to Kid is excited to sponsor the museum's event and share the Chinese culture with families in our community.”
