THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Rusty Fincher, captain in the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office, is encouraging residents to vote early this election. “Unless you’re the sort of person who likes to wait until the last minute, you should take advantage of the convenience of early voting for several reasons,” he said.

Early voting allows registered voters to cast their ballots up to three weeks before Voting Day. For this primary in Montgomery County, early voting started February 16 and runs through February 26 at several locations throughout the area.

“One advantage of early voting is that you can go to any of the established locations in the county,” said Fincher. “On Voting Day, you can only go to your one particular precinct polling place.”

Another advantage to early voting is the significant time savings. “We are anticipating a record turnout this election,” said Fincher. “On March 1, you can find yourself standing in line for hours, and considering that it’s a Tuesday, this could dramatically impact your job. By comparison, the waiting time to cast your vote at an early voting location usually only takes a few minutes.”

Additionally, says Fincher, by coming to the polls early, your chances of meeting candidates and getting your questions answered are much better. “On Voting Day, many candidates will only be at one location surrounded by many people. During early voting, however, there are more locations to be at and fewer people at any given moment, so you and your candidate or one of their representatives can take the time to discuss your questions and comments before you go inside.”

The addresses for Precinct 1 early voting locations are the Lee G. Alworth Building — 207 W. Phillips in Conroe, the North Montgomery County Community Center — 600 Gerald Street in Willis, and the Lone Star Community Center — 2500 Lone Star Parkway in Montgomery. For this final week of early voting, polls are open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
