CONROE, Texas - The date is set for the glamorous Montie Awards and Lifetime Achievement Award 5th Anniversary Special.

The Monties are excited to announce that tickets are now available online and at the box office of the historic Crighton Theater in downtown Conroe. This annual, highly anticipated, formal event celebrates the pursuit of excellence of every arts organization in the Conroe area and features theatrical stand outs in every category. This time it will be all the bigger and brighter for what has become as the most glamorous night of the year for the fine art.

Tickets are now on sale for just $10 each for the fifth annual special where local theater casts and crew will be honored for their year of incredible work along with other outstanding volunteers in other art organizations. The ceremony will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at 8 p.m. at The Crighton Theater in downtown Conroe.

Montie Executive Producer Craig Campobella said this year will be over the top since it is the fifth anniversary.

“We’ve had four amazing years to honor the work of these tireless volunteers in the Conroe community,” he said. “This year will not only shine a light on the work done this year at The Crighton and The Owen, but also take a look backward to the very roots of the arts in this area.”

This year’s ceremony will include very special guest performances that are sure to make the audience never want to leave.

Harold Hutcheson, manager of the Conroe Visitors Bureau, said the arts are “vital to Conroe as a community because their presence speaks to our citizens and our guests on a very common, very visceral level that surpasses socio-economics, education, race, color, or creed.”

“Simply put, the arts are our common denominator,” Hutcheson said. “Beyond that, having a vital arts presence in our downtown area brings in tourists and those tourists frequent the theaters and the galleries as well as the surrounding businesses and hotels during their stay.

“Those tourism dollars have a powerful economic impact which benefits all. Lastly, the presence of the arts in Conroe bolsters our reputation and factors favorably into how others perceive us.”

The Montie Awards recognize actors, directors, crew members and community members from a very wide and diverse fine arts presence every year for their work in the arts throughout the season. These performers and other arts volunteers come from all over the area including Houston, Conroe, The Woodlands, Tomball, Huntsville and many more to volunteer. The awards are similar to those given out in national theater shows like The Tonys.

A ticket reserves the individual entry into the black-tie awards ceremony including live entertainment from shows throughout the year, as well as the celebration in Founders Plaza next-door to The Owens Theater after the awards ceremony. The Montie Awards mark the end of the season and the entire audience gathers at Founders Plaza immediately afterwards to mark the beginning of the new season of arts complete with a big band and a large selection of refreshments and snacks.

Men will wear tuxedos or black suits with dark ties, while women dress up in their best evening gowns. The awards themselves are made of solid bronze at a retail value of $900 each, or more than $20,000 annually. These expensive awards are made possible each year by the generous lead sponsorship of Spirit of Texas Bank, Campobella Bronze Studio and Art Foundry Carpino.

Campobella thanks the sponsors that have been with the show for all five years. The costs of The Monties are underwritten by generous donations and in-kind services from local businesses who are duly recognized during The Montie Awards The Greater Conroe Arts Alliance is again facilitating while Spirit of Texas Bank remains as the presenting lead sponsor.
