MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Lucie Nordmann of Magnolia Aquatic Club (MAC) and The Woodlands High School (TWHS) was selected by USA Swimming for the 2017-18 National Junior Team. The selection of Nordmann follows an earlier selection of another MAC swimmer, as Joy Field was named to the senior National Team by USA Swimming in early September.

Nordmann, 17, was one of two women to be selected in four events for the 23-strong, junior women's team, which was announced last Thursday.

The TWHS senior will represent the USA for international competitions during the 2017-18 short and long course seasons in the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke.

Nordmann, who is the National Junior Champion in the 100-meter freestyle, just returned from a very successful World Junior Championship in August, where she placed 9th in the 100-meter freestyle and was a critical leg on the relays, bringing home four silver medals for the U.S.

'Lucie is developing into a very well-rounded swimmer,' said Terry Jones, MAC's Head Coach. 'She is known as a backstroker, but all of her medals at worlds are a result of her strength as a freestyler and butterflyer.'

In addition to Nordmann's many international achievements, which include two individual silver medals in the backstroke at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championship, she has had a very successful high school career.

As a senior, she goes into the 2017-18 high school season as an 11-time UIL state medalist, who led the lady Highlanders to the Texas 6A High School State Championship in February.

Earlier this month, MAC alumna Joy Field, was named to USA Swimming’s National Team for the 800-Meter Freestyle. Field, who graduated from Magnolia High School in May, is now attending Texas A&M, where she will compete for the Aggies. The selection of Field automatically appoints Jones to the team as a USA National Team coach.

“Joy has been a terrific swimmer for MAC,” said Jones. “It is great to see her end her MAC career making the U.S. National Team, which will help her transition to the very competitive collegiate level.”

MAC is a year-round, competitive swim club based out of the Michael D. Holland Aquatic Center located on the Magnolia High School campus. The club, which holds a Silver Medal Club status in USA Swimming’s National Club Excellence Program, employs six coaches for more than 250 swimmers in programs that range from teaching children the basics to high-performance, training groups that target state, national, and international competitions.
