THE WOODLANDS, TX – In a surprise ceremony whose members crashed his morning athletics class, Jeremy Wade, coach for The Woodlands High School’s swim/dive team, received a special accolade as he was awarded Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Wade was nominated by TWHS athletic director Jim Rapp, one of several hundred nominations vying for the recognition across the Lone Star State. Glen West, assistant executive director for Texas High School Coaches Association, explained the process and the odds of receiving the award.

“Athletics directors from each school across Texas make their nominations, so we have regional winners – eight of them – and then from that we have an athletic directors group that comes together for awards, and they send out ballots out to coaches on our select committee. It’s a process where we end up with one senior winner. And. this year, Jeremy was our clear-cut winner,” he told Woodlands Online.

Wade, who was surrounded by coworkers, his family, and Conroe ISD superintendent Dr. David Vinson, was pleasantly caught off-guard by the representatives of the THSCA, school administrators, and members of the media who descended on his class.

“I was very surprised; this is a great honor. I’m finishing my ninth year here at The Woodlands and it’s been a blessing to be here. The hard-working kids make this possible, and a great supportive administrative staff,” he told Woodlands Online.
