THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Oct. 22 marked The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk as hundreds of people gathered to show their support in honor and remembrance of those who have fought cancer.

While hosting this walk, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission is to raise awareness and donate funds in order to assist in support services, research, and treatment for patients. This year’s fundraising goal was $1 million - which was surpassed at $1,003,900.

The walk was held at Town Green Park and featured food, lanterns, concerts, and a final show of fireworks after a 2-mile walk.

Upon entering the walk, The Klein and Oak Ridge band and cheerleaders helped uplift the crowd as participants began to get ready with flashing necklaces, glow sticks, and lanterns in hand. Survivors with family and friends participated as they described exactly what this walk meant to them.

“Being a survivor, I am honestly blessed to be here right now. To see all these people supporting one another, to have been through it all - it’s amazing,” said one participant.

With booths alongside Town Green, supporting companies also participated and explained how they help raise awareness and support those within their company.

“We know the struggle it can be to deal with a loved one having such a sickness and we’re always looking for a way, especially with events like these, in order to support our staff and community and the people around us,” said a participant representing The MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Participants walked around the Woodlands Waterway where signs of those remembered were planted alongside the trail. The grand fireworks display brought the final light to the night as viewers watched the organization’s signature colors of yellow and red brighten the night.

“Tonight really amazed me, they put on a beautiful show and this was a really great experience to say that I’ve worked,” said one of the closing volunteers.
