THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands will soon be home to its first major consultancy company.

Tech Mahindra provides IT, digital, project and telecommunication support services for many industries already home to The Woodlands, including healthcare, hospitality and oil and gas.

Tech Mahindra has established offices in downtown Houston. Opening a second location in The Woodlands just makes sense, said Larry Deckerhoff, Tech Mahindra Assistant Vice President and Client Partner.

"Tech Mahindra has been in the Houston area for more than 14 years, however when we look at the number of oil and gas companies that have relocated to The Woodlands or are planning to relocate to The Woodlands, we made a decision to establish an office in The Woodlands," Deckerhoff said. "It's one that gives us the ability to serve our major clients here. Also we plan to expand."

Deckerhoff said they have plenty of resources to help companies in a wide range of industries by providing a variety of subject matter experts.

Tech Mahindra is part of the Mahindra Group, headquartered in Pune, India. Mahindra Group is a $21 billion company with more than 200,000 employees in more than 100 countries. Its industry clients include real estate, aerospace, leisure and hospitality, defense and more. In fact, their presence in the automotive industry is significant in Houston, with leading sales of UTV's and tractors. In 2010, Mahindra was the number one selling tractor in the world.

Tech Mahindra will have a notable presence in the drilling, production and exploration sides of the oil and gas industry in The Woodlands.

"The kind of services oil and gas companies are looking for is in digital and IT telecommunications," said Manoj Gupta, Senior Vice President - Energy. "The Indian industry is number one in the world for providing these services. We are the first Indian-based company to open an office in The Woodlands. Our objective is to grow. This is just the beginning." View video

Deckerhoff said they plan to introduce themselves to the business community through a series of Lunch and Learn events beginning this spring.

Gupta said they want to be "local, local, local." To make that happen, Deckerhoff said they will work closely with community colleges and Texas universities to recruit local talent, hire locally from the current marketplace, and participate in local philanthropic causes such as the United Way and MS150.

"Tech Mahindra is a strong firm and it's just going to continue to grow," Deckerhoff said. "Adding Tech Mahindra to The Woodlands community is a huge asset."

"We want to be closer to our customers, grow with the community and expand what The Woodlands office has to offer," added Tech Mahindra Assistant Vice President and Client Partner Srini Bondalapti.
