THE WOODLANDS, TX -- It’s finally here -- Labor Day Weekend! Summer is (sort of, in a Texan way) drawing to a close, and a looming long weekend promises ample opportunities to enjoy the fruits of one’s labor. Here it is: our picks for the top five things to do this week in The Woodlands.

Maybe you’re looking to break into the world of stagecraft; maybe you love theatre and have always told yourself you’d give it a try someday. But why wait for someday? Don’t miss auditions for Lone Star College Montgomery County’s Fall 2019 season. This fall, the theatre department will be producing “This is Our Youth” by Kenneth Lonergan and “Student Body” by Frank Winters. Auditions will be held Wednesday, August 28 at 4 p.m. on the Mainstage Theatre. Auditioners are to come prepared with a one minute dramatic monologue. For more information, please contact Directors Chase Waites and Emmy Frank at Chase@LoneStar.edu and Emily.Frank@LoneStar.edu, respectively.

I’ve rarely met someone who, upon hearing the opening notes of “The Raiders March” (you know, “The Indiana Jones Theme Song”), doesn’t burst into their own a capella rendition alongside the familiar tune. On Thursday, August 29, you can relive the magic on the silver screen with the original great adventure -- Raiders of the Lost Ark -- with John Williams’ epic score performed live to picture by the Houston Symphony Orchestra! Lawn and Mezzanine seating is free, while reserved seating is $20 (tickets can be purchased here). Gates open at 7:00 p.m and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.

Get ready to crack open a cold one with the boys (and girls), because Friday-- EVERY Friday, all day long -- is 50% off draft beer day at Herb and Beet, located at 448 Sawdust Road. Kick off the long weekend with some brews and beet chips. You’ve earned it.

Can you keep a secret? On Saturday, August 31, for one night only, Dosey Doe Breakfast & BBQ will be transformed into a Speakeasy. Take in the jazz and candlelight and put on your best fringed flapper dress. Wine, gin, whiskey, and moonshine will accompany a four course meal -- if you know the password. Tickets include a four-course dinner and, for an extra $20, diners can take part in a special Dosey Doe drink flight. Seating for the evening’s show is from 6:30 p.m. - 7p.m.

Where can you find a pie eating contest, face painting, balloon art, free music, and fireworks this weekend? Why, Waterway Square of course! The Woodlands Township is thrilled to announce a day of fun for the whole family in celebration of Labor Day. Come out on Sunday, September 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. to take part in the celebration. The event is free and fireworks are set to begin at 8:55 p.m. See the event page for more details here.
