MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and there is no greater need for community awareness than now. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children are at greater risk of abuse and neglect. During a quarantine the risk for child abuse, similar to domestic violence, can be amplified by increased isolation, stress, and more access to victims by perpetrators. As children are more isolated than ever before, it is everyone's responsibility to be on the lookout for signs of abuse.
April 3rd was Wear Blue Day for Child Abuse Awareness Month, and the employees of the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office showed their commitment to protecting children, regardless of circumstances, by posting photos of employees working from the office and at home. The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, along with our community partners like Children's Safe Harbor and Court Appointed Special Advocates [CASA], law enforcement, local attorneys, and the Courts, are #StillFighting4Kids and we encourage our community to do the same.

The District Attorney's Office has always been committed to prosecuting offenders who harm children to the fullest extent, and the COVED-19 pandemic will not deter that effort. During this difficult time, be mindful of children who are at greater risk of abuse. If you are concerned about the welfare of a child use the following resources to get help:

Law Enforcement: Call 911 in emergency
Texas CPS Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-252-5400

District Attorney Brett Ligon: 'The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has always and will always put the welfare of children first. Offenders should know that our office and the law enforcement agencies of this county will bring every resource to bear to obtain justice in these cases, and I am grateful to know that the citizens of our county will be diligent during Child Abuse Awareness Month and beyond in protecting the safety of Montgomery County children.'
