Klein, TX -- Grand Oaks put up 64 points in Week 1 against Caney Creek. Surely, that game was just a lopsided matchup. There’s no way that production would be sustainable, right? Well, Week 2 gave us an answer. This Grizzlies offense is explosive and if your defense isn’t locked in, Grand Oaks will make you pay repeatedly. Klein Forest found this out the hard way as Grand Oaks moved to 2-0 with a 56-36 win over the Eagles.

The Grizzlies fell behind 3-0 after an unusual first drive from Klein Forest. The Eagles faced a 3rd and 40 after two bad snaps and two false starts. A chunk play on 3rd and long set up a manageable fourth down that Klein Forest was able to convert. This eventually led to the Klein Forest field goal, but this was just the beginning of some stunning big plays.

Grand Oaks followed up the field goal, by scoring 28 unanswered points, all on plays of 60-plus yards. Late in the first quarter, RB Micah Cooper broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run. The one-two punch of Cooper and RB Sean Zver struck again as Zver’s 65-yard TD run at the start of the second quarter quickly silenced the home sideline. With 7:45 to play in the half, the Grizzlies chose to strike through the air this time. QB Hudson Hamilton connected with WR Triston Brause for another 65-yard touchdown. Cooper added another touchdown, this time a 79-yard score to complete the crazy stretch of big plays.

Klein Forest returned the following kickoff for a touchdown, but before the Eagles could get any real momentum going, Grand Oaks responded with another Hamilton-to-Brause connection for a 31-yard touchdown. Hamilton and Brause have built a strong bond on the field, the duo has connected for two TD passes in both games so far this season. The Eagles scored right before the half to make the halftime score a 35-17 lead for the Grizzlies.

Klein Forest seemed to be putting together a second-half comeback after back-to-back stops on defense and a 41-yard TD pass. However, the Grizzly defense stood tall on 4th down late in the third quarter. The quick-hitting Grand Oaks offense returned as Brandon High sprinted away for a 63-yard touchdown. Both teams traded scores in the 4th, including another TD run for Brandon High. With less than three minutes to play, trailing 49-36, Klein Forest fumbled and Grand Oaks LB David Bush scooped it and scored to put the game away.

Next up for Grand Oaks (2-0) is a Homecoming game against Kingwood Park next Friday. The Grizzlies will be attempting to start the season 3-0 for the first time in school history.
