UST Announces Long-Awaited Masters in Sacred Scripture for Spanish Speaking Students
HOUSTON, TX -- UST anticipates a very large first cohort group for its new Master of Arts in Sacred Scripture (Maestría de Artes en Sagrada Escrituras) program when it launches in fall 2021. Taught entirely in Spanish and offered online or in person, the University is trailblazing with MASE as it responds to demand.
UST Assistant Professor of Theology and Director of the Center Semillero for Hispanic/Latino Theology Dr. Gerardo Salazar said, “The Spanish-speaking community has been waiting for decades for a program like ours. University of St. Thomas – Houston is the first Catholic university in the U.S. to offer this MASE 100% in Spanish with a hyflex format.”
Teaching the curriculum will be a collaborative effort of great minds involving professors from St. Thomas and other Catholic universities elsewhere in the U.S. and the world.
“All of the professors hold doctoral degrees with specialties in the biblical area they will teach,” Salazar said.
The program contains 12 courses (36 credit hours), encompassing Biblical Hebrew, Biblical Greek, Exegetical Methods, Hispanic Hermeneutics, Pentateuch, Historical Books, Prophets of Israel, Poetic and Wisdom Writings, Synoptic Gospels and Acts, Paul and His Letters, Catholic Epistles and Johaninne Literature.
Salazar said, “The MASE program is developed for Spanish-speaking people who are alive in the love of Christ and seek preparation at the theological and academic levels to serve in a multicultural and diverse society.”
