SPRING, TX -- Grand Oaks Athletics can check another item off the to-do list. Grizzlies Football is headed to the 2021 7on7 State Tournament in College Station after clinching one of two spots in the Grand Oaks SQT on Friday night.

The Grizzlies made quick work of Caney Creek and Porter to win Pool A. That set them up with a state-qualifying game versus Pool B-winner Oak Ridge, who beat Waller and New Caney in the group stage.

Grand Oaks has had Oak Ridge’s number since the fall. The Grizzlies defeated the War Eagles 32-28 back in November. Recently, the two went head-to-head at the War Zone Lineman Challenge in a Tug O’ War tournament and the Grizzlies were victorious there as well.

Oak Ridge had an opportunity to get back in the win column against Grand Oaks, but an interception late in the second half gave the Grizzlies yet another victory over their rivals.

The teams traded scores on their opening possessions before Oak Ridge got a stop on defense and cashed in on their second possession to take a 12-6 lead. Grand Oaks hit back with a deep shot right before halftime to tie it up at 12.

The Grizzlies’ defense started the second half with a stop, setting up the offense to take the lead and the win, 19-12.

Grand Oaks, along with Spring, clinched the qualifying spots and will head to the state tournament at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station beginning June 24.
