THE WOODLANDS, TX – Last weekend kicked off with an event that saw Dan Crenshaw make an appearance at local family-themed business Deacon Baldy’s, where the congressman signed copies of his book Fortitude: American Resilience in the Era of Outrage, as well as read his new children’s book, Fame, Blame, and the Raft of Shame, to a group of children who accompanied their parents to the event.

Children and parents alike came to see the congressman for a special book-signing/reading ceremony presented by Brave Books

The book tour was hosted by Deacon Baldy’s and presented by the publisher, Brave Books, founded by Conroe resident Trent Talbot.

“I was an ophthalmologist before this all began,” said Talbot. “Once my daughter was born in the middle of 2020, I felt that there was a war going on for the hearts and minds of our kids, and it was one-sided. I didn’t find there was anything that could properly prepare our young children to discern what the true issues facing them are. I felt a calling to fix this, so I stopped practicing and founded Brave Books, and the rest is history.”

Crenshaw was the first author to sign up to write the first in a planned ongoing series of conservative-themed books for children. Soon thereafter, other conservative figures signed on, such as Dana Loesch, Jack Posobiec, The Hodgetwins, and more.

“Getting Dan Crenshaw on board made it a lot easier to get the others; you have a big name like that, everyone wants to join the fun,” said Talbot.

Woodlands Online managed to talk with Crenshaw as he autographed copies of his books for a long line of attendees eager to meet him.

“I got involved with Brave Books a while back when they asked me to write one of the books in this saga,” said Crenshaw. “My book is about the danger of cancel culture. I’m happy to support and partner with Brave Books because this series fills a void when it comes to conservative children’s books. And my book doesn’t throw it in your face either. It isn’t very intense politically; it’s subtle and smart and age appropriate, and it gives parents something different to look for. It’s a cool project, and hopefully the kids will love it.”

One Woodlands resident in particular, Amber White, was happy to meet Crenshaw. “I know he’s going to be President one day so I figured I’d better get out here now. It’s my first time meeting him. He seems to be so nice, just like he is on television; a good, solid guy,” said White.

Crenshaw himself is looking forward to his expected representation of The Woodlands, which now falls under the jurisdiction of Congressional District 2. The Woodlands has historically been represented by District 8 – held for several years by Kevin Brady, who is retiring – but redistricting created new lines.

“I absolutely respect my friend Kevin Brady and will miss working with him,” said Crenshaw (coincidentally, the day before, Woodlands Online was at an event where Brady said the identical thing about Crenshaw). “I know there was recently a contentious election here about incorporation. Everybody has their issues; my goal is to ask people what those issues are, and then do fact-finding and see what people care about. It’s not more than 20 minutes from my current district, so it’s not exactly a different country, but politics is local. We’re going to spend a lot of time in this next year, before we’re officially elected in this district, figuring out what those concerns are.”

Meanwhile, Trent Talbot has high hopes and expectations for Brave Books.

“The books are meant for ages 4-12,” he said. “These are, according to science, our most formative years, and how we most view the world is formed during these ages. To me, that’s the foundation that propels us for the rest of our lives. We want to grow over the next few years and be huge, so that involves plans for being on TV, going into the middle grades, and producing young adult content. Our goal is to have 100,000 subscribers over the next couple of years, hopefully a million in five years.
