1/15 at HAPPI Meet, University of Houston
Girls 2nd place • Boys 6th place (out of 26 teams)
Coach Sara Bany: Cooper hosted the 18th Annual HAPPI (Houston Area Private and Parochial Invitational) Championship meet at the University of Houston this weekend.
The girls team finished second in the battle of Houston, just behind the team from HCYA. Highlights include a dominating performance in the 1m Diving event by sophomore Morgan Robson, who began the meet by winning the event by over 150 points! Following Morgan’s performance, our girls 200 Medley Relay of Caitlin Lanigan, Tillie Claggett, Monica Ianeva and Malia Davis came in second after dropping over seven seconds from their season-best time. Ianeva also finished the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Breaststroke events in second place, finishing as the top scorer for the team. Senior Caitlin Lanigan finished third in the 50 Free and fifth in the 100 Backstroke events while sophomore, Kylie Jeter had massive time drops in both the 200 IM and the 100 Freestyle, finishing 13th and 12th respectively.
The girls team is coming together as we try to craft the perfect line-up for our SPC run. I’m looking forward to the next three weeks of training and competing!
On the boys side, Victor Guerrero led the team in scoring finishing second in the 100 Fly and fourth in the 200 Freestyle. Henry Shea also had stand-out performances finishing with season-best times in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, finishing sixth in both. Zhi-Hahn See sprinted his way to a best-time in the 50 Free, finishing sixth overall and swimming the race in under 23 seconds for the first time! See also swam the 100 Free, finishing 10th and adding to our team score. Sophomore Alexander Harris continues to improve his times this season as he swims a variety of events. This week he had a seven-second drop in the 200 IM and also dropped a second in the 100 Breaststroke. He continues to improve with each meet that he swims in! The boys finished the day off in sixth place out of 26 teams.
A special thanks to members of The John Cooper School’s Interact Club for volunteering for the whole day to time at the meet. Thank you Interact!
