Army National Guard First Lieutenant, Trevor Burchett has been a teacher at Bear Branch Junior High for the last three years, but above that service, he is now being deployed to Laredo to work with the U.S. Border Patrol.

'I felt called to help people when I was young,' said Burchett. 'I have always wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and I think that has proven true both as a teacher and as a defender of our nation.'

Burchett has been enlisted for eight years and has completed previous deployments in Mexico and during Hurricane Harvey. His current deployment is expected to last between 9 - 12 months.

While serving in the Army National Guard, he has also served as a science and history teacher in Magnolia ISD and in Big Spring ISD. He graduated from Texas A&M and was in the Corps of Cadets.

'Serving my country and my community, I have learned many leadership qualities and have great respect for people from different backgrounds. It makes me appreciate my family and other support groups who are working for a greater cause.'

Magnolia ISD has four staff members who are active military personnel. We wish Mr. Burchett all of the safety and success during this deployment and will keep his wife and 15-month old son in our hearts.
