Walk and Roll to School Day
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Sometimes, the best way to start the school day is to take a walk, hop on a bike or roll your way to school! This fall, families throughout The Woodlands are invited to participate in Walk and Roll to School Day, a fun celebration of healthy habits, neighborhood connections and pathway safety.
Participating schools will host Walk and Roll to School events between September 29 and October 9. Families can check the schedule to find out when their school is participating.
Coordinated by The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services Department, the annual event brings students, parents and community partners together for a fun start to the school day. Township Park Rangers, Conroe ISD Police and Harris County Constable Precinct 4 will be on hand to help promote safe travel, while participants can enjoy music, mascots and a special giveaway item.
More Than a Trip to School
Walking or biking to school is a great opportunity for families to spend time together, connect with neighbors and enjoy the outdoors. It can also help children build healthy habits, develop safety awareness and arrive at school ready for a positive day of learning.
Families can keep the momentum going beyond Walk and Roll to School Days by starting a neighborhood walking school bus or bicycle train, tracking steps or miles together, setting a family goal or even turning the trip into a mini adventure with a scavenger hunt along the way.
Make Safety Part of the Journey
Whether walking, biking or scooting, safety should always come first. Parents and children are encouraged to practice safe travel habits together and remember these tips:
- Wear a properly fitted helmet when biking or scootering.
- Use reflective gear and bike lights to help stay visible.
- Follow all traffic laws, signs and signals.
- Walk bikes and scooters across intersections and use crosswalks.
- Be courteous to others on the pathway by slowing down when passing and letting others know when you are approaching.
Walk and Roll to School Days are a simple way for families to get moving, spend time together and strengthen connections throughout the community. For more information, contact The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services at 281-201-3800 or visit thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/NeighborhoodServices.
