Maggie first moved to Nashville at the age of 19 to pursue a career in music. We recently sat down with her to ask her a few questions about her career.

Question:

“What made you originally move to Nashville?”

Answer:

“I was a teenager originally from Potomac, Maryland, and I was actually studying at Clemson University, majoring in vocal performance. When I got a crazy opportunity to move to Nashville with the help of Tommy Mottola, who heard some of my original songs and invited me to basically audition for him in his Manhattan office. Since I had been writing my own music and was going to leverage that major to eventually be in music, I was like, alright, let's just jump in the pool and go where music is written and made and so I moved to Nashville. Tommy Mottola connected me with a lot of the first producers and songwriters that I worked with for what was eventually my first LP in 2013.”

Question:

“Which artists influenced you the most while growing up?”

Answer:

“I think living in Nashville, my contemporaries inspired me. Many people that I wish more people knew about. I love Allison Russell. She's incredible. All of these women I talked to on my podcast are huge inspirations to me like Kathy Valentine of the GoGo’s, and Nancy Wilson. I also love the greats like Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield and the Rolling Stones. All of these great soul singers like Nina Simone are strong, bold singers who have a strong sense of self.”

Question:

“Can you tell us about your time touring?”

Answer:

“Sheryl Crow was kind enough to take me out on the road with her years ago in 2013. She was co-headlining a tour with Carrie Allen, which was kind of interesting and cool. I did a tour with Joan Jett and Heart. They did a package where they had all these women opening up for them all over the country and they gave me and my band a handful of shows to join them on. And Kelly Clarkson has taken us out. I just did this really cool show in New York City to benefit God's Love We Deliver where Keith Richards is playing and Allison also once again was on it.”

Maggie Rose has played Austin City Limits and has taken the stage at The Grand Ole Opry over 80 times. Don’t miss the chance to hear her on June 5 at Dosey Doe Big Barn in The Woodlands, Texas.
