Musician / author The Rev Shawn Amos to play Dosey Doe in support of new album
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Dallas-based soul / blues / roots musician The Reverend Shawn Amos has an upcoming show at Dosey Doe - The Big Barn on May 2, and an album release the next day.
The new album, Soul Brother No. 1, produced by James Saez (Social Distortion, The Road Kings), invites the listener into a sonic world redolent of the socially conscious, Afrocentric 70s soul and funk which inspired Shawn in his youth and whose message continues to resonate today.
In addition to his new album, Shawn is the author of 2 successful YA novels that tackle the real-world issues of race, identity, and finding one’s roots through music. He authored the NAACP Image Award-winning youth novel Cookies & Milk, a semi-autobiographical tale based on his latchkey kid years as the son of cookie entrepreneur Wally “Famous” Amos. The 2023 sequel which followed - Ellis Johnson Might Be Famous – emboldened songwriter Amos to tap back into his family of choice: the seminal soul artists of the Black power era and providing a creative backdrop for the recording of Soul Brother No. 1. He recently discussed his books on the national TV show.
