THE WOODLANDS, TX – It’s the long weekend of Labor Day, meaning countless thousands of us in The Woodlands area get to kick back and feel appreciated for all our hard work. Home barbecues and frantic travel to family out of the area are quite common; however, one doesn’t even need to leave the Township limits to partake of the fun.

No matter the weather, The Woodlands has fun things for all to enjoy

Now, fair warning; the weather may or may not play nice with us this long weekend. There are scattered and not-so-scattered thunderstorms predicted for the next week or so. So, we here at Woodlands Online encourage you to verify each event and scenario we discuss here before schlepping out, just in case; take it with a grain of salt. In fact, take some salt along just in case the roads get too slick.

Friday

What better way to beat the sure-to-be-insane traffic this afternoon than to just hunker down at a local watering hole and enjoy some snacks and live music. No matter where you are, there’s a venue ready for you. The Como Social Club at The Westin at Woodlands Waterway is hosting a no-cover-charge live music night. Dosey Doe’s Breakfast, Barbecue, & Whiskey Bar will feature Nashville singer/songwriter Andrew James starting at 8 p.m., and Josh Weathers starts a half-hour later at Dosey Doe - The Big Barn. If you like your music loud and growly, grab a tarp or two and head out to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for a rousing concert featuring Five Finger Death Punch with Megadeth, The HU, and Fire From the Gods. Even if you work or live in Conroe, there are a couple of great live music venues ready to thrill you tonight: Hannah Kay will be crooning her C&W tunes at The Red Brick Tavern, and Rick Trevino will be singing and playing at Margaritaville Lake Resort - Lake Conroe.

Saturday

Arts and crafts is an amazing way for the entire family to enjoy time together. We have several places around The Woodlands that let you create wonderful art while creating memories. The Cordovan Art School has a pair of classes happening today: if you want your kiddos to experience a touch of everything, or if they are just plain indecisive, the Kids’ Pencil Pastel Watercolor and Beyond is the perfect art class for them; and you grownups will get to get messy in a good way with the Pottery Wheel & Clay for adults. Painting With a Twist on Sawdust Road is holding two separate classes – including one where artists of all ages get to paint ‘Stranger Monsters’ – that let you express yourself and then hang your expressions on your home walls afterwards. And a reminder that The Woodlands Children’s Museum is still holding registration for its Little Picassos Fall Camp for the wee ones.

Sunday

Today is the day to maybe enjoy some amazing food and drink that doesn’t involve you having to grill on your patio. The Woodlands Resort - Curio Collection by Hilton has several Labor Day Weekend packages that include wonderful wine and fantastic food provided by The Back Table. More than two dozen food truck vendors will show up to Rayford Sunday Market’s Food Truck Feast. Federal American Grill is offering a specially scrumptious brunch. But no matter where you eat, think about hitting The Woodlands Township’s Labor Day Fireworks Celebration. Fair warning: KoRn and Evanescence are playing at the Pavilion, so traffic might be a nightmare. But never fear: Woodlands Online will be streaming the fireworks live on Facebook!

Monday

All bets are off for Labor Day Monday itself; there’s simply too much to do and enjoy to contain it in a single category. How about walking some dogs for a worthy cause at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter? Or heading over to Fielding’s Wood Grill for a Labor Day brunch that lasts until 3 o’clock and then head right on over to Fielding’s Local Kitchen & Bar for their blowout Patio Party? Or exercising all that great food off with the Goose’s Acre Running Club?

However you celebrate, we here at Woodlands Online wish you a wonderful Labor Day, and encourage you stay safe and party like there is a tomorrow.
