HOUSTON, TX -- Although the summer heat is still lingering on, October is packed with fun fall events to usher in the new season. From chalk art and painting to community building and group fitness classes, Midtown Houston has something for everyone (even puppies!). Check out these nine things to see and experience in Midtown Houston this month.

Chalk on the Block
Date: October 1, 2022

Experience local artists creating pavement art on the sidewalks around #midtownHOU. Watch one-of-a-kind art come to life before your eyes. Visit Bagby Park in Midtown and step into an interactive 3D sidewalk chalk art that will make you feel as if you have stepped into another dimension.

This month, artists will create FALL INSPIRED art and guests will also music and shopping some local vendors in the park while you watch the art come to life. Enjoy food and drinks at La Calle Tacos in Bagby Park.

Are you looking for classes that inspire, motivate, and teach you? Join us at Bagby Park in Midtown to learn a new craft, skill, or technique. This month we partner with Painting with a Twist Midtown for a fun, fall-inspired art piece. This event is limited to guests who are 21 years or older. Check-in time is at 5:15 p.m.

National Night Out

Join your community for National Night Out. Participate in the best crime-fighting tool ever invented –meeting your neighbors, the officers and command staff that look after our community, your Midtown Houston board members and staff. Take home valuable information and freebies!
Meet with members of the Houston Police Department South Central Division, Houston Police Department Central Division, METRO Police Department, Harris County Constable Precinct 7, Houston Community College Police Department, Houston Police Department Homeless Outreach Team and S.E.A.L. Security Solutions.

There will be food and drinks from James Coney Island, desserts from Bakers Man and treats from KicPops. There will be several vendors giving out swag.

Midtown Houston businesses are encouraged to participate. If you would like to set up a table, please contact Jaime Giraldo, Public Safety Coordinator. The deadline to apply to participate is on or before the close of business Tuesday, September 27th.

ABOUT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT:

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits.


Coffee with a Cop

Get to know your neighbors and law enforcement officers that patrol Midtown Houston over coffee + pastries.

The purpose of Coffee with a Cop is to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve. In a short time, citizens and police officers get to know each other and discover mutual goals for the communities they live in and serve. Community residents can sit down with officers and ask questions or share what’s on their mind.

There will be coffee, breakfast tacos and desserts.

Get Fit in Midtown

Featured instructor Roz Jones will conduct a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) class at 9:30am and Yoga Flow class at 10:30am for all fitness levels, weather permitting. Roz Jones, Fit Lifestyle Innovator, is a dynamic and influential force of energy and enthusiasm. As a seasoned fitness professional, Roz’s classes build strength, flexibility, and endurance.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) 9:30am – 10:15am
Be prepared to burn calories and build character by combining cardiovascular training, strength training, functional flexibility, and music for a solid 45-minute practice.
Equipment Needed: Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring a mat and water; resistance bands are optional.

Yoga Flow 10:30am – 11:15am
Movement, music, and mindfulness are the focus of this Baptiste-inspired, powerful yoga flow that engages all your muscles for increased mobility and strength.

With plenty of fenced-in outdoor space, dogs can meet new friends, get some exercise, or just chill by the water bowl, while their humans do some socializing of their own.
