THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On January 2, 2021, Donald Baker, an endeared candy store owner, and beloved Woodlands area resident passed away at the age of 89. He and his wife owned and operated The Candy House on 27160 Glen Loch Drive for over 25 years, and along with some of the best candy around, they provided a warm smile, a loving heart, and a caring spirit to everyone that entered their store.

After Don’s passing, a kid-focused foundation was set up by his granddaughter, Kelly DiSalvo, and according to Kelly, the mission of the Donald A. Baker Foundation is to fund and support programs and organizations that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Kelly wants the foundation to continue the job of helping kids in need, a mission that was close to her grandfather’s heart.

The foundation participates in several fundraising events throughout the year to help enrich the lives of children.

From November 18 through December 16, donations will be accepted to go towards Texas Children’s Hospital in the form of purchasing toys to give to the hospital for Christmas. Last year’s campaign included a “Candy Cane Lane” toy drop-off held at Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands as well as helping a family in need. Kelly mentioned that her foundation also works with area nonprofit organizations to help choose a family in need during Christmas to help them purchase Christmas gifts.
