THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Grand Oaks Grizzlies hosted the College Park Cavaliers at home for the 2022-2023 district opener. Grand Oaks is coming off a successful 10-5 district season while College Park went undefeated last year.

In the first quarter Martez James was able to pop off 6-points for College Park against the Grizzlies while Jordan Reese chalked up 4-points. Although it was a close match, College Park was able to lead after 8 minutes of play in the first, 14-15.

Trey Lewis would hit 7 of the 19 points in the second quarter for Grand Oaks. College Park struggled with fouls so the Grizzlies hit the line and would go 4 of 6. As the halftime buzzer rang, Grand Oaks would take the lead while College Park trailed, 33-25.

Once again Martez James would chalk up many points for the Cavaliers and would showcase his skills in the second half. He would go 5 for 6 from the free throw line in the second half and would put up 32 points before the game was over. Although James would have a spectacular second half, Grand Oaks would edge them out in the third and fourth quarter.

Caleb Edwards would go 10-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and finish off the day with 18 points. Jordan Reese would outscore Edwards with just 2-points to give the Grizzlies a 70-62 win.

“It feels great,” Coach Day would remark after the win against the Cavaliers. “It feels even better to beat a good quality team like College Park…that’s a ranked team in the state. It’s a great start for district.”
