CONROE, TX -- On Christmas Day 2022, the Rabon family was gathered around the TV, watching the new movie “Elvis”, never suspecting what was about to happen next. Just after watching the scene where Elvis Presley suffers a heart attack, the same happened to Lynda Rabon. She collapsed in her bathroom as her family rushed to try and open the locked door. Fortunately, her daughter-in-law Mary knew exactly what to do. She immediately called 911.

Austyn Roach, in MCHD’s 911 Dispatch Center, answered the call and started to give life-saving instructions. A very quick two minutes later, MCHD Paramedics and Firefighters arrived to take over Lynda’s care. She was unconscious when paramedics arrived, but they quickly administered CPR and medications to restart her heart.

MCHD Attendant Paramedic Jaime Larrea was with Lynda in the back of the ambulance. “Her eyes just shot open, and we were looking at one another. I said to her, ‘There you are. Thank you so much for coming back to us.’”

MCHD’s Medical Director Dr. Robert Dickson said this is an extremely rare case. “For Ms. Rabon to be doing as well as she is with no deficits after suffering cardiac arrest is phenomenal. Everything had to line up perfectly for her to be sitting here with us today.”

Lynda was so grateful to all of the first responders for saving her life.

“I hardly remember anything about that day, but I do know this. I am so thankful to be here with my family and I owe it to all of you. It was our Christmas miracle.”

MCHD would like to thank all of the first responders involved in Lynda’s care:
