THE WOODLANDS, TX – Lon Larsen, a Woodlands area community icon and locally considered everyone’s favorite photographer, was involved in an accident while walking his dog. Immediately, friends and family gathered forces and started a GoFundMe page to raise funds to cover the cost of equipment required to help with his rehabilitation.

His family has opened a fundraising page to help with his medical expenses

Lon is known best by the work he does behind a camera, which started for him decades ago, his dad moved to The Woodlands and opened a camera store. Lon later joined the family business and became a freelance photographer for local newspapers on the side. Since moving to The Woodlands in 1984, he has spent a majority of his photography career covering sporting events at The Woodlands High School and McCullough Junior High.

He is such a mainstay of this community that he was recognized in December of 2020 as one of Woodlands Online’s ‘Faces of The Woodlands.’ At that time, he explained that, besides the opportunity to work in his field of choice, he most enjoyed the community aspect of what he does. “My favorite part of the job is just being around all of the people, quite honestly,” he said. “I’ve got a camera so they’re always all smiling at me.”

He now has a road to recovery that will involve many hours of rehabilitation to be able to get back to his normal daily activities. “He has captured so many memories through his photography of so many people over the years,” said Heather Hays, organizer of the fundraiser. “This is our chance to give back to him a little of what he has given to us. Please donate to help him on his road to recovery.” All funds collected will go directly to Lon.
