THE WOODLANDS, TX - The Precinct 3 Right of Way and Sign crews have been busy in 2023 involving cleanup, repair and replacement efforts after major storm events, incidents and accidents, while still finding time for continuing education and training.

The crews recently went through Flagger training and certification, as well as traffic control training to ensure that they can set up and maintain safe work zones on and along county roadways.

In addition to regular duties, as of the end of July, the crews have responded to 2,889 work orders so far in 2023.

Many responses involve trash, debris and bandit signs, as garbage and illegal signage litter the county right of way.

Some highlights from July:

  • The Sign Department fabricated and installed 398 signs last month, with much focus on replacing residential signs with the 20 mph signs, as approved by Commissioners Court in July.
  • The on-call Right of Way crew early in July responded to guardrail damage along westbound Woodlands Parkway caused by a vehicle accident. The crew removed the damaged guardrail from the roadway; the Sign crew returned to dismantle the damaged rail and haul if off. Contractor Willow City then replaced the guardrail (see photos above).
  • The crews recently teamed up to remove excess vegetation from the right of way along South Panther Creek Drive in order to prepare for updated striping and pavement markings, including crosswalks, along the roadway, which is ongoing.

Additionally, the Kuykendhal left-turn lane extension at Bay Branch Drive is almost completed. Precinct 3 and contractor Teamwork completed pouring concrete Monday, Aug. 14, as part of a left-turn lane extension on northbound Kuykendahl Road at Bay Branch Drive. The curb was installed the next day, with striping to follow and lanes reopening for traffic. In addition to the left-turn lane extension, a flashing yellow arrow was added at the intersection for northbound traffic turning onto Bay Branch. This is one of a series of turn-lane extension/addition projects completed over the past few months by Precinct 3 Commissioner Noack’s Office to help improve mobility and safety on county roads. More improvements are on tap.
