THE WOODLANDS, TX – This year’s Free Recycle Day was a resounding success. A total of 919 vehicles came through the line, dropping off nearly 28 tons of material – the average weight of an adult humpback whale. That’s more than 55,000 pounds of recyclables and hazardous waste being kept out of our green spaces and waterways.

The following is a breakdown of the materials received during the event:

Paint: Approximately 3,000 gallons were collected in quarts, gallons, and 5-gallon buckets. This includes latex paint, oil-based paint, stains, finishes, and varnishes

Household Chemicals: Total of 11,024 pounds were collected. This includes acids, bases, bleach, cleaners, degreasers, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, pool chemicals, etc.

Electronics: Total of 17,483 pounds were collected. This includes TVs, computers, printers, peripherals, AV equipment, personal electronics, etc.

Tires: 170 tires were collected. This includes passenger vehicle tires and bicycle tires

Fluorescent Bulbs: Approximately 800 bulbs were collected. This includes compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), 4-foot tubes, and 8-foot tubes.

Free Recycle Day was so successful thanks to the hard work and cooperation of the men and women who work for Commissioner Noack’s Office. In addition to the Recycling Team, members of every department at Precinct 3 came together to execute the event in an organized, efficient manner.

The following crews deserve recognition for making the event possible: Community Center; Mosquito Control; Nature Center; Precinct 3 Administration Staff; Road and Bridge Crew; Sign Crew; and Traffic Signals.
