THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Teams make their plunges deeper into district play with eight matches played last week to see who comes out on top. Separation is starting between the top dogs and the bottom dwellers with the results from the previous week’s matches. Here are the matches from last week’s slate.

The Woodlands vs. New Caney

Following an out-of-district loss to the Harlan Hawks from San Antonio, the Lady Highlanders sought to bounce back against a faltering New Caney team.

The match would begin and the Woodlands took control from the start. At no point during the match did the Lady Highlanders concede a set with a perfect 3-0 sweep to claim district win number two.

Cleveland vs. College Park

The College Park Lady Cavaliers suffered a tough loss to open district play against the vaunted Grand Oaks Lady Grizzlies. But, they were able to find easy pickings in the form of the Cleveland Lady Indians.

College Park would make a statement in their only match of the week with a dominant victory in straight sets over the Lady Indians.

This win resituates College Park within striking distance of teams at the top of the district while keeping the teams near the bottom of the district away.

Conroe vs. Willis

With the hopes of staying atop the district, the Conroe Lady Tigers traveled to Willis to face a scrappy Ladykats team on their home turf.

A series of ties would define the first set as there were four before either team had a chance to break away. However, the Lady Tigers would score a series of runs that allowed them to claim the first set with relative ease.

After the strong opening, Conroe would continue to build their momentum. Two more victories in the second and third sets would secure a three-set sweep victory for Conroe.

Grand Oaks vs. Caney Creek

The Caney Creek Lady Panthers hosted the Grand Oaks Lady Grizzlies in what became another dominant win for the area’s most dangerous team.

With only one loss under the belt the whole season, Grand Oaks took the first set by a commanding amount. A 13-point victory in the first set would be the closest that the game got for Caney Creek as the team failed to score half as many points as the Grizzlies in the next two sets.

Grand Oaks would walk away with another easy victory, 3-0.

The Woodlands vs. Conroe

For both teams’ second match of the week, The Lady Highlanders went to Conroe to face off against a Lady Tigers team looking to make a statement.

The statement would unfortunately fall on deaf ears. The Woodlands crushed their opponents in the opening two sets, allowing only a combined 14 points.

The Lady Tigers would reclaim some dignity in the third set with a late push to claim one, but their efforts fell short. In a win-by-two situation, the Lady Highlanders’ offense would prove to be too much to handle and the Woodlands would claim another 3-0 victory.

Oak Ridge vs. New Caney

Still in search of their first district win, the New Caney Lady Eagles welcomed Oak Ridge with the hopes of getting it.

The Lady War Eagles would not oblige their opponents with a win. Instead, Oak Ridge jumped out to a commanding two-set lead after allowing 11 and 16 points in the first and second sets respectively.

The 16 points allowed in the second would be the closest it got for New Caney with the team falling in the third set by a 10-point deficit and marking their second straight 3-0 loss in district.

Grand Oaks vs. Willis

For the third straight game in district play, the Grand Oaks Lady Grizzlies put on a dazzling display of volleyball while on the road against Willis.

Despite having their home crowd behind them, the Ladykats would fail to win a single set against Grand Oaks. An 11-point loss in the second set would be the closest Willis got to the Lady Grizzlies.

After the dust settled, Grand Oaks would snag their third straight 3-0 victory in district play with a tough road matchup against the Woodlands on Tuesday the 5th.

Caney Creek vs. Cleveland

The Cleveland Lady Indians hosted the Caney Creek Lady Panthers in both teams’ search for their first district win.

Caney Creek opened the match with an impressive 10-point victory in the first set which set the tone for the rest of the match. Cleveland would try their hardest to claim a set but fell short by eight points in the second.

After a scoring surge in the final set, Caney Creek claimed their first district win via straight sets before the start of week three.
