Montgomery County Community Leaders to Chair American Heart Association’s Annual Walk this Fall
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of death in Montgomery County, and two local community members are determined to make a difference. Kerrie Guerrero, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Houston Methodist The Woodlands, and Misti Jeter, President & Co-founder of BlackPearl Technology, Inc., have been chosen to lead the American Heart Association’s Montgomery County Heart Walk, taking place November 4th.
The American Heart Association (AHA) is a global advocate for healthier lives and Guerrero and Jeter are honored to raise awareness locally about the national organization and its aim to fight heart disease and stroke. This annual community campaign rallies local companies, corporations, and individuals and families, uniting them to improve heart health.
“There are two very important reasons why I chose to serve as one of this year’s Montgomery County Heart Walk chairs – first, for my family, and second, to increase awareness about the connection between heart disease and cancer,” said Misti Jeter. “I would also like to continue to strengthen and grow the Montgomery County’s AHA chapter, through community engagement.”
Kerrie Guerrero, a medical leader in The Woodlands, said, “I work in healthcare and I see the devastating effects of heart disease and stroke on a daily basis. And through the AHA and its countless resources around heart disease and stroke, I want to help educate my community on ways to live healthier.”
Heart disease and stroke are largely preventable and how you eat, move and manage stress directly impacts your well-being, physically and mentally. Heart Challenge™, an on-going educational campaign sponsored by AHA, provides resources, tools and activities to support both mental and physical well-being for employers and employees.
AHA’s Montgomery County chapter and this year’s Heart Walk chairs envision a healthier, more resilient community built on knowledge and support.
