THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On Saturday, November 4th the Montgomery County Heart Walk took place at North Shore Park in The Woodlands. This annual event aligned with the Association’s Heart Challenge™ campaign and aimed to rally local companies, corporations and the community to unite against heart disease and stroke.

Kerrie Guerrero of Houston Methodist and Misti Jeter of BlackPearl Technology, Inc. chaired this year’s Montgomery County Heart Walk in The Woodlands

Through a series of activities before and after the 3-mile walk, participants, including children, learned more about hands-only CPR, signs of stroke and healthy eating. Survivors were also recognized with a special red carpet walk entry lane. Mark Linabury, President and CEO of the EMC Chamber of Commerce, served as the event’s emcee.

Chairs Kristie Guerrero, VP and Chief Nursing Officer at Houston Methodist The Woodlands, and Misti Jeter, President and Co-founder of BlackPearl Technology, Inc., had one primary goal on Saturday – to cultivate stronger communities through proactive health choices. Top company donors included the Association’s 2nd Century Donors, BlackPearl Technology, First Community Credit Union, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, Houston Methodist The Woodlands, and St. Luke’s Hospital The Woodlands. Other corporations and organizations who donated funds, and worked to create walking teams, include HCA Northwest, HCA Conroe, Texas Children’s The Woodlands, Texas Cardiology Associates of Houston, Javara, MD Anderson, Waste Connections, and 5 Point Credit Union.

“We are so incredibly grateful for all of our participants and volunteers who came out on Saturday to make a difference around heart disease and stroke,” said Lisa Fenley, Development Director at the American Heart Association. “The Montgomery County Heart Walk also wouldn’t have been such a success without the monetary donations from our area corporate donors and the enthusiasm of so many families in our community.”

Heart disease and stroke are largely preventable and how you eat, move and manage stress directly impact how your well-being, physically and mentally. Heart Challenge™ provides resources, tools and activities to support both mental and physical well-being for employers and employees.
