THE WOODLANDS, TX – Unfortunately, there’s going to be some gnarly rainy weather this weekend that will threaten to put a damper on your holiday travel plans. If you do decide to take a road trip between today and Sunday, exercise extra caution.

The weekend weather will make travel tricky, but Christmas morning will be merry and bright

We’re almost at our Friday high of 70 degrees under total cloud cover and with some light winds. The sprinkles have popped up from time to time, but this is all just a presage to the weekend wetness to come. Tonight will be your best bet to get some outdoor activities or to see the neighborhood lights before the skies open up. Overnight, we’ll barely feel the temperature difference as he hit a low of 60.

Saturday morning will start off moody – if not outright gloomy – as the mercury crawls back up to 70. But as the day progresses the storms will come, and they won’t be going away for at least 24 hours. Expect an inch or so of rain, so again we exhort you to exercise caution while on the roads. As the winds howl and the rains keep pounding, this might be a good time to bring back the old Christmas tradition of telling ghost stories.

Sunday – Christmas Eve – will continue the stormy story until it’s time to nestle all snug in your beds. As night descends, the rains will ease up, the winds will die down, and the skies will clear just enough for Santa to find his way. The day will be warm as the two leading up to it, but finally the pressure will drop enough to bring in the cold front, and we can expect a low in the mid 40s.

It’s not exactly a Christmas miracle, but Monday morning will dawn relatively brightly, with only a few clouds in the sky and a high temperature in the 50s. The rains will be behind us – literally and figuratively – and you can enjoy a dry (if not still glistening) day of ripping open presents and stuffing yourself with cheer and food.

As the week between Christmas and New Year’s settles in, expect some cooler, drier weather…
