THE WOODLANDS, TX -- In a heartwarming celebration of resilience and community, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Texas (Habitat MCTX) is set to host its Annual Building Hope Gala, celebrating “35 Years and Building” on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 6:00 pm at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.

Since its beginnings in 1989, Habitat MCTX, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has been more than a housing ministry—it’s been a beacon of hope. Over the years, it has fostered strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable shelter, welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds, irrespective of race, color, religion, gender, disability, household status, or national origin.

The upcoming gala marks 35 years of Habitat MCTX working to build affordable housing in Montgomery County and is an occasion to honor the visionaries behind the organization. Founding Members, including the esteemed Dr. Jim Schultz, will be recognized during the event for their pivotal role in laying the foundation of Habitat MCTX.

Habitat MCTX partners with the community and families living in inadequate shelter or substandard conditions to provide decent, safe, and affordable homes through new home construction and home repairs. Since 1989, the Habitat MCTX Homeownership program has built and repaired more than 300 homes, with 11 new homes currently underway at Cedar Creek—an all-Habitat community in Conroe. Cedar Creek, the first 100% Habitat-occupied subdivision in Montgomery County, sits on 37 acres of partially donated property and will house 129 families upon completion. The Habitat MCTX Critical Home Repair program extends its support to families, seniors, Veterans, and individuals with special needs who own a home but need health and safety repairs.

Helping to fund the organization’s programs is the 20,000-square-foot ReStore—an innovative home improvement resale store and donation center owned and operated by Habitat MCTX. Sales of donated items help the organization partner with local families to fulfill its mission to build, rehabilitate and repair safe and affordable homes in our community.

Volunteers are the backbone of Habitat MCTX, contributing an impressive 15,000 hours during the 2022-23 fiscal year. Their unwavering dedication resulted in the construction of 17 new homes, the completion of 33 critical home safety repairs, and efficient operations of the ReStore, making construction projects affordable.

A volunteer Board of Directors and Advisory Council provides vital oversight, financial support, and organizational expertise. Family Services volunteers are crucial in qualifying new families for the program.

The 2024 Building Hope Gala is more than just an event- it is an opportunity to contribute to Habitat MCTX’s mission. The gala will feature dinner, live and silent auctions, a heartfelt homeowner testimonial, and a paddles-up chance to raise funds for future Habitat homes. Sponsorship opportunities are still available at http://www.habitatmctx.org/gala or by contacting Patricia Etris, Director of Strategic Partnerships, at petris@habitatmctx.org or (936)441-4663 ext. 208.
