MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that I share a heartbreaking update: one of Montgomery County’s residents and recent graduate of Caney Creek High School, Reese Manchaca has been found deceased following the devastating flooding in the Texas Hill Country. This tragedy has shaken so many, and the loss of such a bright, young life is truly gut-wrenching.

Reese was with three of her friends at a cabin near Hunt, Texas when they were swept away during this flood. At this time, two of her friends remain missing, and tragically, one other has also been found among the deceased. We are continuing to pray for those still unaccounted for, their families, and all who are grieving in the wake of this unimaginable disaster.

As Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” In the middle of this heartbreak, we hold fast to the comfort only God can provide.

Montgomery County is working directly with Reese’s family to ensure they are cared for and supported in every way we possibly can during this time of grief. We ask everyone to continue lifting up not only this family, but the many others across the region affected by this flood. May comfort, strength, and peace surround them all.
