SPRING, TX -- At the 2025 ABRAFATI Show in São Paulo, Brazil, global specialty chemicals company Orion S.A. will showcase a wide-ranging portfolio of carbon black tailored specifically for the Latin American market.

Orion’s (Booth A10) comprehensive offering at the Sept. 23-25 show features:

  • High-color blacks for automotive applications.
  • A new high-performance furnace black for packaging inks.
  • A new high-jet furnace black for engineered plastics.
  • New sustainable grades for coatings and inks.

“Our high color blacks illustrate our commitment to providing the LATAM automotive market with coloristic and performance options,” said Carlos Hernandez, marketing manager LATAM, Specialty Markets. “PRINTEX® 47 A BEADS for packaging inks and PRINTEX chroma 500 BEADS for engineered plastics demonstrate our continual innovation. And, ECOLAR 50 Powder and PRINTEX Nature 35 emphasize our complete focus on sustainability.”

Orion will showcase the following high-jet blacks for the automotive industry:

  • COLOUR BLACK FW 200, produced with the gas black process, features high structure and high purity, which lead to exceptional dispersibility compared with other carbon blacks of the same particle size.
  • COLOUR BLACK FW 255 POWDER, geared for automotive OEM and refinish systems, delivers very high jetness and a deep-blue undertone in both solvent-borne and water-borne coating systems.

Orion will launch PRINTEX 47 A BEADS, a high-performance furnace black for packaging ink applications. In addition to great optical density, PRINTEX 47 A BEADS features low viscosities and high pigment loading, which enables high pigment concentration.

“The higher concentration eliminates the need for multiple batches and thus reduces the amount of processing time,” Hernandez said.

The company also will highlight PRINTEX chroma 500 BEADS, the first in a series of new higher-value specialty grades for the polymers market. Designed for engineered plastics requiring the highest aesthetic quality, PRINTEX chroma 500 BEADS offers an excellent balance of high jetness and dispersibility for a shiny, glossy finish.

In addition, Orion will offer two new grades that help meet increasing industry demands for sustainable products. Made from bio-circular feedstock, ECOLAR 50 POWDER for coatings and PRINTEX Nature 35 for printing applications help industry formulators develop truly sustainable products for coatings and ink applications.

When Orion’s new acetylene black plant in La Porte, Texas, begins operation, expected in the first or second quarter of 2026, it will be the only U.S. facility producing acetylene-based conductive additives. It will increase the availability of acetylene black for lithium-ion batteries, adhesives and sealants, and wire-and-cable applications. Moreover, the thermally and electrically conductive additives produced there will be super clean, with only one-tenth of the carbon footprint of other commonly used materials.
