CONROE, TX -- Montgomery County Hospital District is proud to announce MCHD’s Community Paramedic Team has been awarded the 2025 Partnering to Protect Award for the Houston District. These awards, given by the Adult Protective Services (APS) branch of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, recognizes a select group of partners APS leadership identified as going “above and beyond” in the service of a client.

Nivea Wheat, Sergio Borrego, and Jimena Morales received the award during this week’s APS Conference in Austin, Texas.

MCHD established its Community Paramedicine Program in 2013 targeting high utilizers of the 911 EMS system. The program has evolved to better serve our community, regularly collaborating with local organizations to ensure older adults and those with disabilities and other challenges receive the medical care they need.

“There is no greater mission than to protect the vulnerable in our community,” said Melissa Miller, COO of MCHD. “We see all of the hard work and dedication the Community Paramedics put into the care of these patients on a daily basis. To have them recognized on a state level for their efforts is an amazing thing to see.”

Montgomery County Hospital District’s mission is to care for the indigent and provide EMS services while protecting the interest of taxpayers and ensuring long-term stability through fund development. For more information about the Montgomery County Hospital District, please go to www.mchd-tx.org.
