THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Distracted driving continues to be a serious public safety concern across Texas and within the City of Conroe. Despite ongoing education and enforcement efforts, distracted driving remains a leading cause of traffic crashes, resulting in preventable injuries and fatalities on our roadways.

In 2024, nearly one in five traffic crashes in Texas involved distracted driving. These crashes are largely preventable, yet they continue to place drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk and leave thousands seriously injured each year.

Texas law has prohibited drivers from reading, writing, or sending text messages while operating a motor vehicle since 2017. To address ongoing violations and enhance roadway safety, the Conroe Police Department will increase enforcement of distracted driving laws over the coming weeks.

During this enforcement campaign, officers will actively monitor traffic and stop drivers observed engaging in distracted driving behaviors. This initiative aims to promote safe driving habits, raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, and improve compliance with Texas traffic laws.

The Conroe Police Department urges all motorists to stay focused on driving, put mobile devices away, and do their part to keep Conroe’s roadways safe for everyone.
