CONROE, TX -- Lone Star College-Montgomery welcomed area residents to discover new passions and lifelong friendships at the Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) Open House. Held on Thursday, January 8, at the Maverick Conference Center, the event showcased a vibrant community dedicated to personal growth and social connection.

As seniors increasingly seek out engaging educational environments, the ALL program has served as a vital resource for active adults in Conroe and Montgomery County for over two decades. The membership-based program offers adults age 50 and older classes ranging from technology, financial planning, genealogy, health, and the arts.

"The Academy for Lifelong Learning is ideal for people looking for that next chapter in their life," said Mary Diaz, a moderator and volunteer with the program for more than 10 years. "For retirees looking to stay active, we provide a space to engage with others, reconnect with old friends, and take classes that improve mental and physical health. Whether it's Tai Chi or yoga, it is truly great for the mind, body, and spirit."

For an annual membership fee of just $25, members gain access to a full academic year of seminars and social activities. The Open House offered prospective members a comprehensive look at the program’s benefits, including the opportunity to:

  • Learn about upcoming courses in history, health, wellness, and literature.
  • Meet volunteer instructors who share their professional knowledge and experience.
  • Register for ALL spring semester classes.
  • Explore opportunities to volunteer in the program or instructional roles.

A highlight of the afternoon was a live performance by the Lone Star Strummers, a local dulcimer group. The performance showcased the direct impact of the program’s curriculum; the group originated from one of the academy's popular music courses, where students learn to play traditional string instruments.

With no educational prerequisites or exams, the program is open to individuals 50+ who share an interest in learning and connection. Whether mastering basic computer skills, participating in arts and crafts, engaging in group discussions, or taking part in off-site day trips to local community events and museums, the Academy for Lifelong Learning offers an inclusive environment for all.
