Lone Star College–Montgomery Drama Department Celebrates Student Achievements at Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival

Lone Star College–Montgomery drama students celebrate their achievements from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 6, where they received multiple awards for their outstanding work in theatre arts.

CONROE, TX -- The Lone Star College–Montgomery Drama Department is proud to announce the outstanding accomplishments of its students at the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region 6. Several students received awards for their exceptional work in various categories, showcasing the department’s dedication to excellence in theatre arts.

This year’s festival recognized the talents of students involved in the department’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, with awards spanning sound design, lighting, stage management, ensemble work, choreography, acting, and nominations for the Irene Ryan Scholarship.

The awards include:

  • Meritorious Achievement in Sound Design – Beck Murphy
  • Meritorious Achievement in Lighting Design – Ximena Morales
  • Meritorious Achievement in Stage Management – Mason Hilburn
  • Meritorious Achievement in Ensemble Work – Cast and Crew
  • Meritorious Achievement in Choreography – Aiyana Renner
  • Meritorious Achievement in Acting – Peyton Waites
  • Irene Ryan Nominations – Caya Sibley, Brayden Ayers, and Yolanda Hernandez

The festival is an annual event where students from college and university theatre programs across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico compete for scholarships, internships, and national recognition. It provides an invaluable platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills and gain industry recognition.

Our students’ participation in KCACTF underscores the department’s commitment to fostering artistic growth and professional development. The department will travel to Abilene, Texas, from February 20 to 24 to present its acting and design work at the festival.

“We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements,” said Chase Waites, Director and Professor of the Drama Department at Lone Star College–Montgomery. “Their hard work, creativity, and dedication have been recognized at the regional level, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth in the arts.”
