The Woodlands Water Agency Schedules Systemwide Water Distribution Flushing Beginning Feb. 9
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Water Agency will begin a scheduled flushing of its water distribution system serving multiple Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) in and around The Woodlands starting the week of Feb. 9, a routine maintenance process expected to last eight to 10 weeks, the agency announced.
The flushing program will affect customers in The Woodlands MUD No. 1; Montgomery County MUDs Nos. 6, 7, 36, 39, 46, 47, 60 and 67; and The Woodlands Metro Center MUD. The procedure is recommended by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as part of standard system maintenance.
During flushing, water will be released for short periods from fire hydrants throughout the system. The process may temporarily disturb naturally occurring minerals, including iron, which can cause water to appear reddish or brown. Agency officials said the discoloration does not affect the safety or potability of the water.
Residents who observe discolored water are advised to run household faucets until the water clears and to avoid washing clothes until the water clears.
The flushing effort coincides with a comprehensive fire hydrant audit covering approximately 4,748 hydrants across the affected districts. The audit will proceed in phases between Feb. 9 and April 10, with work occurring district by district according to a published schedule.
The schedule begins with Montgomery County MUD No. 39 on Feb. 9–10 and concludes with Montgomery County MUD Nos. 7 and 60 in early April. Officials noted that the dates are tentative and may shift based on operational or weather conditions.
Customers with questions about the flushing program are encouraged to contact The Woodlands Water Agency customer service line at 855-H2O-SAVE (855-426-7283, ext. 4).
