Lone Star College System seeks to boost veteran-owned business contracts
HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College System is strengthening its commitment to veteran empowerment through the Veteran Heroes United in Business (VetHUB) initiative, a statewide program designed to increase public contracting opportunities for small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans.
“Through this program, Lone Star College System is expanding access to qualified, certified vendors while supporting economic growth for veteran entrepreneurs across Texas,” said Rick Reeves, LSCS associate vice chancellor, Supply Management. “By engaging service-disabled veteran-owned businesses, we foster competition, increase access to high-quality vendors and reinforce our commitment to doing business in a way that is transparent and impactful for our students and communities.”
VetHUB honors those who served while boosting the state’s economy by expanding access to state-level contracts. The program provides a free certification process for Texas businesses that are at least 51% owned, managed and operated by one or more service-disabled veterans. Interested vendors who wish to participate in the program can find this information on the Texas Comptroller’s website.
LSCS will collaborate with chambers of commerce, procurement networks and veteran organizations to ensure qualified businesses are prepared to engage and compete for contract opportunities.
“Lone Star College System provides meaningful resources to our veteran students and employees. The VetHUB initiative will help us better support the veteran community beyond our campuses,” said Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. David J. Yebra, LSCS chief veterans officer.
Current and potential vendors interested in doing business with LSCS are invited to a workshop April 16 at LSC-System Office, The Woodlands in the Lone Star Community Building, Star Ballroom II.
