Celebrate Women’s History Month at Lone Star College System

Lone Star College System will observe Women’s History Month with several events highlighting the past and current contributions of women

HOUSTON, TX -- Women’s History Month brings several events to Lone Star College System, honoring the impact women have made and are making on its campuses and beyond. Throughout March, students and employees are invited to discussion panels, film screenings, lectures and more.

“Women’s History Month highlights the invaluable contributions of women, who inspire and strengthen their communities every day,” said Myriam Saldívar, LSCS Board of Trustees vice chair. “Through the power of education, Lone Star College System supports women by helping them get from where they are to where they want to be.”

Upcoming events include:

March 2: LSC-Houston North Fallbrook hosts HerStory in the Making, an empowering conversation with a panel of influential women, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the campus lobby.

March 3: From 12:30-1:20 p.m., LSC-Kingwood will host Auto Babes: Women Mechanics Leading the Way, celebrating the women mechanics who are redefining the industry. The event will be held in Parking Lot D, or in CLA 112 in case of inclement weather.

March 3: LSC-Process Technology Center will kick off Women’s History Month by honoring pioneering women in process technology and instrumentation from 1-3 p.m.

March 4: LSC-Kingwood hosts Professor Victoria Armenta for a discussion on sustainability and art, examining how creativity can promote environmental awareness and change. The event will be held from 12:30-1:20 p.m. in SCC 108 & 109.

March 5: Joanie Steinhaus, the ocean program director for Turtle Island Restoration Network, will share about protecting the oceans at LSC-Kingwood CLA 112 from 12:30-1:20 p.m.

March 6: LSC-North Harris students and employees are invited to Spill the Tea: Evolution of Women Impacting Leadership—an empowering conversation on the journey, growth and impact of women in leadership—from noon-2 p.m. in SB-208. RSVP is required by March 3.

March 9: Professor Suann Hereford presents Barbie Through the Years, celebrating women’s accomplishments with door prizes and Bingo from 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. at LSC-Atascocita’s Multipurpose Room.

March 24 and 26: Literary Legends, a celebration of women authors, will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at LSC-Houston North Greenspoint’s student life room on March 24 and LSC-Houston North Fairbanks’ student life room on March 26. Attendees will explore the literary impact of women through book displays, poetry readings and spoken word performances.

March 24: Professor Amy Hoherz will present Dr. Moon Duchin’s research on the geometry of gerrymandering at Mathematics of Representation in LSC-Kingwood SCC 108 & 109 from 12:30-1:20 p.m.

March 25: LSC-North Harris will host a resource fair specifically for women student veterans and dependents from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at CSTTC 102 & 103. This event connects attendees with resources and organizations that support academic success, wellness and career growth.

March 25: LSC-Atascocita Center will host a viewing of the classic romantic comedy “13 Going on 30” from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for students and their families.

March 26: As Women’s History Month comes to a close, LSC-East Aldine Center will host Let Her Bloom in the CyberCafé from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

March 31: LSC-Houston North Victory will host an inclusive, hands-on workshop for students to express their voices, stories and identities on canvas while exploring women’s experiences. All materials will be provided, and the event runs from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

March 31: LSC-Kingwood celebrates the life of Jane Goodall, a trailblazer in science and a lifelong advocate for conservation, in SCC 108 & 109 from 12:30-1:20 p.m.

"As a student at Lone Star College System, Women's History Month feels empowering because we're not just talking about change; we're seeing it,” said Za-zil Cabrera, LSC-Kingwood student. “With organizations like the Auto Babes Foundation coming to show girls that they can be mechanics and thrive in careers that are often male-dominated, it reminds me that no dream is off limits."
