CONROE, TX -- Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Beta Delta Iota, has been officially recognized through the REACH Rewards program for its excellence in membership acceptance. This designation follows a landmark year for the chapter, which saw a 16% increase in membership from 2024 to 2025, with 318 new members added.

The REACH (Recognizing Excellence in Acceptance and Completion with Honors) program recognizes Phi Theta Kappa chapters that demonstrate exceptional success in expanding membership and engaging eligible students. By achieving the highest tier of growth, the chapter was awarded 16 graduation stoles to present to members in recognition of their academic achievement and leadership.

“It has been rewarding to see the enthusiasm from our students, but also a sense of accomplishment and belonging in the college community,” said Lori Hughes, PTK Advisor. “PTK is an outlet that supports community. Helping students find something they connect with is an honor; in addition to my teaching, this is a vital service.”

Phi Theta Kappa is an international academic honor society open to students, including those in dual credit and workforce programs, who have completed at least 12 college-level credit hours and earned a minimum grade point average of 3.5. A one-time membership fee provides lifetime access to an extensive network of scholarships, leadership development opportunities, and academic resources.

Priscilla Shontz, PTK Advisor, emphasized that the organization is accessible to all students who meet the academic qualifications. “One thing I like about PTK is that it is open to a diverse group of students and provides a way for students to be part of something significant. The honor society also offers flexibility for them to be involved in their campus and community.”

The 16% growth reflects a revitalized campus presence. This semester, the chapter has established consistent weekly meetings and collaborative events, such as a recent campus carnival hosted in partnership with seven other student clubs. Membership in PTK offers students tangible benefits for their future, including access to transfer scholarships and professional development opportunities.

Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter continues to demonstrate its commitment to student success and community engagement. As it celebrates this remarkable achievement, the chapter looks forward to building on its momentum, welcoming even more students, and enriching the college experience for all.
