Public Safety & Verification Procedures

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reminds the community to remain vigilant and if in doubt, verify the identity of anyone claiming to be law enforcement. Some helpful tips include:

• Marked Units and Uniformed Deputies: Legitimate MCSO deputies typically arrive in clearly marked patrol vehicles with official decaling and emergency lighting. Our uniforms are navy blue with clear MCSO patches and insignia.

• Plainclothes Detectives: Detectives operating in unmarked vehicles will gladly provide their unit number, official credentials, and MCSO identification upon request.

• Identification: Real deputies will never hesitate to share their badge number or unit information if asked.

• Verify via Dispatch: If you are uncertain about an officer’s identity or reason for contact, call the MCSO non-emergency dispatch line at 936-538-5900 to confirm that deputies have been dispatched to your address.

This is an active investigation and no further information can be released at this time. Once more details are available for release, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will update as appropriate.
