East Patrol Command-Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) Arrest Wanted Fugitive Following Pursuit to IAH Airport
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office East Patrol Command-Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) successfully apprehended a wanted fugitive following a high-speed vehicle pursuit that concluded at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
The incident began while Deputies were conducting a fugitive investigation in the area of FM 1485 and FM 2090. During the operation, the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Michael Vandeberghe, was observed leaving the area on a black 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Deputies converged on the area and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Vandeberghe refused to comply and fled the scene.
The pursuit traveled into Houston and continued until Vandeberghe crashed the motorcycle into the exterior of the International Terminal at Bush Intercontinental Airport. The crash occurred at a relatively low speed, and damage to airport property was limited to an exterior A/C unit.
Vandeberghe was taken into custody without further incident and was subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Jail where he was booked on multiple charges, including Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Additionally, he was processed for two active felony warrants including one for Theft out of Montgomery County and a second for Child Neglect out of Polk County. He remains in the custody of the Montgomery County Jail.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Houston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their vital assistance during the pursuit and at the scene of the arrest.
