Montgomery County Youth Softball Coach Charged with Online Solicitation of a Minor
MAGNOLIA, TX -- A man, who coaches youth softball, has been arrested for online solicitation of a minor for seeking sex with a detective who was posing as a 15-year-old girl, Harris County Constable Precinct One Alan Rosen announced.
“We will always do all we can to protect children,” Constable Rosen said. “Our detectives patrol cyber space and they catch predators.”
Nathan Scott Velez, 37, of Magnolia, was charged with a third-degree felony after an investigation by Constable Precinct One’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
The defendant, who was arrested Thursday, faces two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, if convicted.
The investigation began in early April in an online chat platform and led to several conversations over the next several weeks, according to court records.
“When do I get to see your body?” the defendant asked, according to court records. “When do I get to see you in person?”
Detectives contend that the defendant requested nude photos, discussed sex acts he wanted to perform on the undercover persona, and made arrangements to meet her in person.
The records also state that he coaches a softball team in Montgomery County and is a lineman for a technology company.
Constable Rosen asks that anyone with information about the defendant’s inappropriate interactions with children to contact Constable Precinct One’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at 713-222-4929.
“We need everyone’s help to keep children safe,” Constable Rosen said. “If you see something or know something, please give us a call.”
The unit is part of the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
