Sarah Kelly Music School Students Head to Hollywood to Record with Mike Clink
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- What began inside a music school in The Woodlands recently culminated in a once-in-a-lifetime experience at one of the most legendary recording studios in the world.
Students from Sarah Kelly Music School traveled from Texas to Los Angeles to record original music at the world-renowned EastWest Studios under the direction of acclaimed producer Mike Clink, whose work with Guns N' Roses, Whitesnake, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth, Eddie Money just to name a few whom has helped shape some of the most influential albums in rock history.
For many aspiring musicians, opportunities like this only come after years in the industry. For students at Sarah Kelly Music School, it became a reality through the school's commitment to providing real-world artist development experiences that go far beyond traditional music lessons.
The immersive trip gave ten students an inside look at the professional music industry while working directly with some of the most respected names in entertainment.
The students recorded alongside an elite lineup of musicians, including:
• Mike Clink: Producer for Guns N' Roses, Whitesnake, Mötley Crüe, Heart and Eddie Money 9 (just name a few) Mike Clink has also served as Co-Chair of the Recording Academy’s Grammy Producers & Engineers Wing, further cementing his legacy as one of the industry's most respected producers and advocates for excellence in music production.
• Victor Indrizzo: Drummer whose credits include Willie Nelson, Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, Alanis Morissette and Lizzo
• Sean Hurley Acclaimed bass player who has worked with Miley Cyrus, Michael Bublé, Gwen Stefani and Ringo Starr
• Andrew Synowiec: Andrew Synowiec is an acclaimed guitarist and recording artist known for his work with major recording artists including Disney’s global hit “Let It Go” from Frozen.
Perhaps the most extraordinary part of the trip was that Sarah Kelly Music School artists recorded their own original songs at EastWest Studios with Mike Clink and his team, transforming ideas that began in Texas practice rooms into professional recordings created inside one of the most celebrated studios in music history.
'What a treat to take 10 students from Sarah Kelly Music School into the studio to record their songs,' said Mike Clink. 'I knew they would be prepared, focused and motivated to bring the skills they learned at the school to the session. I could not have asked for a better group of students.'
For Sarah Kelly, founder of Sarah Kelly Music School and a two-time Grammy-nominated artist herself, the experience represented a deeply meaningful full-circle moment.
'This was the ultimate full-circle moment for me,' said Kelly. 'I worked with Mike 20 years ago, and that experience transformed my career and ultimately earned me a Grammy nomination. Being able to give this experience to our students reminds me how special our school is and how much I truly love what I do.'
The opportunity left a lasting impression on both students and educators.
'I'd say they were 90 percent excited and 10 percent terrified,' said Jonas Ekman, co-owner of Sarah Kelly Music School. 'Seeing a song, you wrote on a piano or guitar back in Texas come to life with musicians who've played on some of your favorite records is life-changing. It's humbling to realize that Mike Clink, whose body of work represents the equivalent of more than 150 billion streams, has spent time pouring over every line of your song and helping make it better.'
For Sarah & Jonas, one moment stood above the rest.
'Seeing the look on our students' faces when they realized they weren't just students they were artists with bright futures ahead of them. That’s exactly why we do what we do,' they said.
The experience reflects Sarah Kelly Music School's mission of helping students discover not only how to perform music, but how to thrive as artists. By connecting young musicians with Grammy-nominated artists, world-class producers, elite touring musicians and industry professionals, the school continues to create opportunities rarely found outside major entertainment hubs such as Los Angeles, Nashville and New York.
Inside the walls of EastWest Studios. Where countless hit records have been made. These students were not simply learning about the music industry.
They were experiencing it firsthand.
