THE WOODLANDS, TX – In 2026, communities across the nation are commemorating America 250, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. While many celebrations will focus on the nation's founding, the anniversary also offers an opportunity to reflect on the people, places, and events that shaped the country we know today.

250 years. Thousands of Texas stories.

SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL. Say it with me. “Semi – quin – cen – ten – nial.” See? It’s not that hard. This tongue-twister of a word means 250 years, which is how old the good ole U. S. of A. will turn on July 4th. It’s time to celebrate!

America's Story Lives Here
America wasn't only built by a handful of famous figures. It was shaped by generations of people from many backgrounds and places whose stories can still be explored today.

Here in Texas, those stories are everywhere. They can be found in historic forts and courthouses, along country roads and rail lines, in small-town museums, state historic sites, and places where ordinary people made extraordinary contributions to American history. No matter what your interests are, Texas offers countless opportunities to explore how local stories connect to our shared national story.

So, if you’re asking yourself, “What does America 250 mean for a Texas traveler?”. We’ve got your answer! It means special exhibits that won’t be around forever. It means new opportunities to experience familiar places in new ways. It's a chance to reflect on how local Texas stories connect to larger national themes. And it means you've got a good excuse for a heritage-themed road trip!

America 250 isn't only about 1776. It's about discovering the stories that followed; many of which happened right here in Texas.

Throughout the month of July, our State Historic Sites will host special programs, exhibits, and events that invite visitors to discover these connections firsthand.

Whether you're feeling patriotic or simply looking for a memorable day trip with friends or family, there's an America 250 experience waiting at a Texas State Historic Site. And for even more Semiquincentennial ideas across the Lone Star State, be sure to explore the official Texas America250 website at www.texasamerica250.com.
